68 Source [13] 1. Jacobus VAN DEN BERG a1 was born about 1680. He died before May 7, 1714.

73 From Ethne Hall:
As regards my grandmother (Mac) name she was Bessie Helen and was always known as Nell to her family. I seem to remember her telling me that she was 18 when my father was born. He was a very tiny baby and had to be wrapped in cotton wool soaked in olive oil and he slept in his father's shoe box!!

Note: Some confusion regarding her birthdate - according to her Death Notice she was born in 1872, this would have made her 21 when her eldest son was born.

This is probably her birth announcement:

Birth Announcement:
Surname: Bamber Gender: F Birth Date: 06 11 1872 Announcement Date: 8-Nov-1872 Notes: At Zwartkop Valley, near Pietermaritzburg, the wife of Mr W Bamber of a daughter Source: The Natal Witness & Agricultural & Commercial Advertiser Transcriber: Sally Smith

At her death she was living at 223 Windermere Road, Durban

e-mail from Ethne Hall, April 1, 2006
As regards my grandmother (Mac) name she was Bessie Helen and was always known as Nell to her family. I cannot find a year date for Grandma Mac's birth anywhere but I think that it might be 1873 since I seem to remember her telling me that was 18 when my father was born. He was a very tiny baby and had to be wrapped in cotton wool soaked in olive oil and he slept in his father shoe box!!
